Lil' Baby Unicorn (Pink)

image

Lil’ Baby Unicorn is born. This little baby is a request from a dear friend and it’s the 2nd Unicorn I’ve made. The 1st unicorn was made months ago for Cherron’s 21st Birthday. Click “Here” to read about Lil’ Candy Floss, the other unicorn I crocheted.

Jaster wanted her unicorn to be different from the previous one I made. She wanted it to be unique. So I thought of trying to create my own unicorn instead of using back the same pattern. I’ve also decided to change the colors for this unicorn. I want this unicorn to be sweet and vulnerable (just like a little baby). Pink never fails to give the sweet and adorable feeling. I search my stash box to find other colors that will go well with pink, and I ended up choosing red and off-white. What do you think? :)

I’ve taken some pictures of this little baby playing with my other yarn friends. Enjoy!

Lil’ Baby Unicorn is learning how to walk. And Lil’ Bunny Cupcake is cheering her on!

Lil’ Straw”BEAR”ries love spending the afternoon telling stories and teaching Lil’ Baby Unicorn ABC..

Lil’ Green Kitty enjoys horse riding on Lil’ Baby Unicorn.

image

And the other animal friends are worried about Lil’ Baby Unicorn safety and that Lil’ Green Kitty would fall. “Kitty, stop bullying the little baby. Come down now.”

Oh I just can’t get enough of them! Can you?

Here’s are some of my Work-in-progress pictures:

image

On the left shows the picture of little baby unicorn’s head. I did a color change for the head, started off with off-white yarn and changed it to pink after. On the right, is the picture of her little ears and horn.

image

This is a little collage of the other body parts.

image

The next step is to construct the mane and tail. I’ve seen some pictures of other amigurumi horses and unicorn that has a hair-like mane and tail. It looks like they attached the yarn to the body piece by piece. I’m afraid pieces of hair will fall off from my unicorn because I haven’t master that technique. It look time-consuming and tedious too. I would love to learn that technique someday but I was thinking of an easier way to create the mane and tail yet it will look nice at the same time. Since it’s a gift for my friend, I want to make sure that all the parts are nicely done and are secured.

This was what I had in mind. Using 2 different colored yarns (to create better contrast), I chain them together, Single Crochet, Double Crochet, Triple Crochet and Slip Stitch to create a shell/flower like mane. Then I used red yarn and repeated the same steps to create smaller shells and sewed them on both sides. Same goes for the tail, just that i reduce the number of chains.

image

After completing all the parts, it’s time to piece them together.

image

I’ve sewed on 2 ‘X’ nostrils using red tapestry thread and added a pair of 12mm eyes to give Lil’ Baby Unicorn a really adorable look. Look at those eyes, don’t they make you want to give her a big hug and a little pinch on her cheeks?

image

This is the back view of Lil’ Baby Unicorn. The mane and heart-shape tail look pretty good after sewing onto the unicorn hey? I’m so happy that it turned out right and that the color contrast goes well. *smiles*

I’ve one more unicorn in my To-Do-List. My colleague Michelle saw this little baby and fell in love with her! She wanted one for herself too. Her baby unicorn will be in blue because that’s her favorite color. Looks like many of my friends love unicorns. :) Hopefully I can complete the blue unicorn before giving this pink one away so I can snap some cute pictures of them playing together.

Thank you for taking your precious time to read my post. I really appreciate all the love, comments and support you have given me. Click “Here” if you want this pattern.

The Reversible Expressions Animal Series

image

Greetings from Little Yarn Friends. I am proud to present to you my latest Creation, “The Reversible Expressions Animal Series”. This is probably one of the creation that I really enjoyed making and it’s the most meaningful Creation I’ve created so far.

One day I was viewing My Milk Toof by Inhae Lee and saw the tiny tooth figurines she made. I always enjoy viewing her blog and her little short stories that she portrays in photographs showcasing her handmade tooth figurines embarking different adventures. She even finds tiny furniture and other props to make the whole set come alive. My friend Catherine (the one who introduced me to this amazing blog) told me that all the tooth figurines are handmade by Inhae Lee. I look at each Tooth in every picture. Each tooth has a different expression on them. That’s a lot of work and dedication! A sudden spark of inspiration came to me. If I can make something that could have changeable expressions, I won’t have to make the same figurine over and over again. I can just change the expressions on the face. That’s a great idea isn’t it? And that’s how the Reversible Expressions came about.

I’ve made 3 little lovely animals for this series. They are:

image

1.   Lil’ Puppy Blu:

You probably know him already since he is the first puppy I created few weeks ago. Click HERE to read the full story behind Lil’ Puppy Blu’s creation.

Characteristics: He has a fun-loving and adorable nature. He loves to play fetch all day and he needs to eat his favourite chicken flavoured treats at least twice a day. His friendly and playful nature made him everybody’s favourite.

image

 2.   Lil’ Green Kitty:

Characteristics: She is an adventurous cat that enjoys outdoor activities. Unlike other cats, she doesn’t spend her day dazing or relaxing. She is always hyper and always seeking for new quests and adventures. She dreams to be a space cat someday.

image

3. Lil’ Pink Bunny:

Characteristics: She is a shy little bunny that loves to hide in her little hole all day nibbling on carrots. She gets frighten easily especially when there’s loud noises or if it’s too crowded. But she get along well with Lil’ Puppy Blu and Lil’ Green Kitty.

I chose these 3 animals because they are common pets we keep at home. Some pets are blessed with loving families and homes whereas some are not as lucky. They are abandoned or ill-treated. Some do not have proper hygienic space to stay, some are sick and are not treated in time, some are tortured, some are starve, etc. My heart really goes out to all these animals. I’ve always wanted to help these animals, to give them a better home and a better life. Every living thing in this world is precious be it big or small. This Creation is solely dedicated to all our animal friends in the world, to raise awareness to stop abandoning animals and animal abuse. These little ones added so much joy in our lives, we should make them happy too. If you would like to help these animals, one way is by donation. Click HERE to Know/ Help/ Donate to SPCA (Society of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). A little helping hand makes a big difference in their lives. Thank you in advance!

Here are some Work-In-Progress Pictures:

image

I made the Outer Head using 8ply Acrylic Yarn with a 3.5mm hook and the Inner Head using the same yarn with a 3.0mm hook. Then I slot the Inner piece to the Outer piece (you can see it on the bottom right picture).

image

On the left is a picture of the body and on the right are Lil’ Green Kitty’s Arms and Legs. After completing all the body parts, it’s time to sew them in place.

image

Note: All 3 Animals have the same pattern except for their ears.

image

And here’s the whole gang. Don’t they resemble the Power Puff Girls? Haha. Any similarities is purely coincidental. Of course I went photo crazy again (as usual). I love my new friends! Let’s welcome them with open arms. *Weee*

image

image

image

Demonstrating how to reverse their faces. :)

image

These little pals were playing hide and seek. Seems like Lil’ Puppy Blu couldn’t find his 2 friends. “They are right behind you, hiding inside those paper bags.”

image

Look at Lil’ Pink Bunny, she is blushing while posing for the camera.  Lil’ Green Kitty is hiding sneakily behind her, waiting for a good chance to scare her. Playful little cat.

image

Lil’ Puppy Blu and Lil’ Pink Bunny is relaxing while Lil’ Green Kitty is still jumping around.

After a tiring day of photoshoot for them, as a reward, I took them out to play the next day. As you can see, they really love to play. I snapped pictures as they were having fun. I will share the photos in my Next Post.

Nyan Cat

image

Those who know Nyan Cat will definitely know the addictive theme song. I never knew what a Nyan Cat was until one of my friend requested if I could make one for her. I went to Google it and realized it’s this cute little bread-shape cat. Click on the YouTube video below if you’re curious what does a Nyan Cat do. I bet you simply can’t resist his cuteness.

That’s right, he hops around (non-stop) in the sky with rainbow rays behind him. After watching this video, I just can’t get the theme song out of my head! As I was making this little cat, I was humming the music while crocheting. It’s addictive. I like Nyan Cat because he is a simple looking cartoon yet he still looks so cute.

Here are some work in progress pictures of my little Nyan Cat.

image

I used gray, pink and yellow 8ply acrylic yarn and a 3.0mm crochet hook for this project. The patch elephant pouch is where i keep all my crochet hooks, needles and scissors.

It took me awhile to figure out how to crochet his rectangular body.

image

Look at this mess! I wanted to attempt to make a block shape like body instead of a pillow shape but I didn’t know how to join the block at the end. So I had to start all over again.

image

My 2nd attempt in making the body was better. These are pictures of the body. I crocheted in rows to create a rectangular shape and single crochet around the completed rectangle so it looks neater. I made 2 rectangles one for the front and one for the back, and a smaller pink rectangle to be sewn at the front of the body.

image

For the face, I crocheted an oval shape and stuff fiberfill in it. Then I added 2 triangular ears and 2 safety eyes.

image

These are pictures of the legs and the tail.

image

After completing all the parts, it’s time to piece them together. I made the legs a little too big, so I sewed them overlapping each other. It turned out not too bad hey?

image

And this is my completed Nyan Cat. I hope my friend like this new friend that I made specially for her. Nyan Cat is really excited to meet her. He is all set and ready to be delivered to her soon. Meanwhile,

image

Nyan Cat loves mingling around with the rest of my little yarn friends. Seems like they are having a great time.

image

But it’s time for Nyan Cat to leave. We’ll miss you Nyan Cat. Thanks for bringing so much smiles and laughter to all of us.
