Thank you so much for all the love and enthusiasm that you have given to this little space ranger. Look at that little smirk on his face! He sure looks please to meet so many new friends. :)

We all remember Buzz Lightyear as Andy’s Toy from the Disney Pixel Movie, Toy story. Along side with Woody (his cowboy pal), this space ranger is also the co-leader of Andy’s room. Toy Story is one of my all time favourite cartoons. I can never forget how this movie made me laughed and cried so much with all the funny and touching moments that these toys have been through.

Buzz Lightyear is always known as a tough guy, I wanted to challenge myself and try to turn this macho space ranger into a cute amigurumi plush toy. Do you think I’ve succeeded?

Do not be deceived by his cute appearance, Lil’ Buzz Lightyear will save the universe from Evil Emperor Zurg with his laser blast! Haha.

Many of you have commented that you are very excited and interested to crochet Lil’ Buzz. I thought I’ll show you some of my work in progress pictures and bring you through my working process so it will be easier when you make your own Lil’ Buzz Lightyear.

The head is probably the hardest part in this entire project. This is my first time working with 2 colours in a row and it was a struggle to keep the colour change neat and in line to the next. I eventually made my way to the very bottom of the head by using the normal colour change method. But it was quite a mess as there were many yarn left hanging inside the head.

Do you have any suggestions on how to do such colour change? I would love to know an easier and neater way to do so. :)

Here is a picture of the front and back view of Lil’ Buzz’s head and body. If we want to make an amigurumi cute, an easy way is to play with their head and body proportions. I’ve noticed we’ll never go wrong if we crochet our amigurumi with a big head and small body.

Looking at the original cartoon, there are many little details on Buzz’s body which are very difficult to crochet. I only picked out the major colours which are green, white and black.

These are Lil’ Buzz’s tiny arms and feet.

And here are some pictures of how I made his wing.

And his ears and cut out felt eyes.

To complete his look, I’ve added some buttons made from tapestry threads and felt.

Tadaa! Lil’ Buzz Lightyear is complete.

He is ready to use his newly made wing to fly to infinity and beyond…

Blasting off… Be safe Lil’ Buzz!

I’m in the middle of writing up Lil’ Buzz Lightyear’s Crochet Pattern. I’ll try my best to get it up on my blog as soon as possible. Thank you so much for taking time to read the making of our Lil’ Buzz.

We’ve decided to take a little break from crocheting and get our hands on with some Nano Block building. :)

If you have not heard or seen Nano Block, they are micro-sized building blocks that allows you to build different kinds of adorable animals and beautiful building structures, etc. It is the same as Lego, just 10 times smaller. “Here” is a link to their original website.

I remembered the first time I saw Nano Block was in Seoul, which I briefly blogged about it ”Here” together with my yarn adventure. I couldn’t remember why I did not buy some back despite knowing I was a huge “Lego” fan back in my primary school days.

A few weeks ago, I finally chanced upon these Nano Blocks while doing some random window shopping at the toy section of Isetan, Shaw House. I stood there for a long half an hour deciding on which animal to bring home with me. It was so difficult to make a decision since all of them are so cute! I almost bought all of them on impulse. Haha.

I finally went with this Panda since it reminded me of my fluffy panda.

Fluffy panda is actually the mascot plush toy for WWF and also a very meaningful gift from my Mom who has been with me for many years now. He is very glad to assist me with the building of his new friend. Very helpful of him. :)

With our awesome teamwork, it didn’t took us long to complete this little baby. Look how tiny he is!

I really love how Nano Block Panda turned out. The whole structure looks real and believable. I also like how the blocks were already separated into their individual shapes and placed into 4 different plastic packets. Time was saved in slotting out and finding the blocks. Though the instructions were in Japanese, the pictures were very well illustrated which makes it really easy to follow.

Aww.. Don’t they resemble each other?

Fluffy panda is saying hi to his new friend. If only there’s an amigurumi panda is in this picture as well hey? Definitely adding that to my To-Do-List. :)

Making this Nano Panda was quick, relaxing and fun. I will definitely be getting more Nano Blocks in future. Do join in the fun. :D

Happy weekend!

Some people find it relaxing to read, while others love spending time on their laptops watching movies with a bag of chips on their hands, etc. Crocheting is my form of relaxation as it takes my mind off the hustle and bustle of “the real world” and get absorbed into the world of amigurumis. This hobby of mine reminds me to take a breather, enjoy and be thankful of the little things in life. What is your form of relaxation? :)

I must have been really hungry or having some huge cookie craving because I ended up crocheting so many fortune cookies! 15 in total - 5 in brown (the original cookie colour), 5 in baby blue and 5 in baby pink.

These fortune cookies were really quick and fun to make. However, I felt they were a little plain. So I gave them faces and printed out different fortune messages and placed it inside each cookie.

The idea of making moustache faces came from one of my previous creations: Lil’ Moustache Easter Eggs. Click “Here” to read the blog post and “Here” for the free crochet pattern. Don’t you think these moustache faces add some character and fun to these fortune cookies? :)

Have a closer look of these Lil’ Moustache Fortune Cookies in different colours. Ain’t you tempted to pull out the fortune messages to read?

I had so much fun shooting pictures of these fortune cookies and arranging them in all sorts of formations.

Look! Don’t these fortune cookies look like a flower when they are being arranged this way?

Here’s a picture of the flower formation in a different angle.

I’ve decided to wrap them up nicely and put them in GetVintage Store so you can bring home some moustache fortune cookies too. :)

I got a little playful and took a picture of Twinkle with my handmade moustache. Haha.

I went down to GetVintage the next day to display these newly handmade items. I brought Twinkle along too. She was a bit nervous at first since it was her first time visiting the shop.

But Twinkle’s nervousness died down when she met Kayler. Look! Both of them are shaking hands. How cute! :D

Aww.. You can tell both of them get along really well just by looking at this picture. :) I had a day well spent at GetVintage, shopping and catching up with the gorgeous and friendly boss, Felicia.

These Lil’ Moustache Fortune Cookies can be found at the payment counter and they are patiently waiting to send some good fortune your way. :)

This blue fortune cookie keychain is a custom order. I made his fortune message with white yarn instead of paper so it will be more durable.

Do you want to make your own moustache fortune cookies too? Stick around with us as we’ll be sharing Lil’ Moustache Fortune Cookie’s tutorial and free crochet pattern on our next post! Have a blessed week ahead! <3

I’ve seen so many adorable crocheted beanies on the Internet and I’ve always wanted to make one. Knowing it’s summer all year round in Singapore and I’ll never get a chance to wear it, I always end up not doing it.

As soon as we decided that Seoul will be the destination for our long awaited vacation, I wanted to crochet something fun and meaningful for Jimmy and I to wear to our trip. And a pair of matching beanies sounds like a perfect crochet project to keep our heads warm from the cold.

Thanks to Sarah ( Founder of RepeatCrafterMe) for the awesome pattern that she’ve provided for FREE, I was able to make these matching pair of sock monkey beanies. Her patterns were very well written and well illustrated, which makes it really easy to follow. It took me 1 full day to complete these 2 beanies and I’m really happy with how they turned out. By the way, I am a huge fan of her blog and I LOVE all her creations! Click “Here” to check out her amazing page and other creations if you have not done so! :) You’re in for an awesome treat!

Don’t you think these sock monkey beanies spiced up our whole outfit? :)

The reason why I chose to crochet sock monkey beanies out of so many other characters is because I find that sock monkey has a good mix of fun yet not too cute look, which makes it acceptable for a guy to wear. Well, at least Jimmy didn’t mind. Infact, he liked it a lot and we were really happy parading our unique beanies in the streets of Korea.

I always find that sock monkey is a really cool creation. Who would have thought that a pair of socks can be made into an adorable old school plush toy? I will definitely learn to make one someday. You can click “Here” to read more about the origins of sock monkeys.

Click “Here” for the RepeatCrafterMe Sock Monkey Beanie Crochet Pattern.

I used size Teen/Adult and did some minor changes to the pattern since I wanted my beanies to have a slightly bigger fit. I’ve added an extra Round to the hat and ear flaps. I didn’t mind having a non smiley sock monkey, so I crocheted the red and white mouth pieces together instead of separately. Here are the following changes I did to the original pattern:

Abbreviations:
st = stitch
ch = chain
sl st = slip stitch
SC = Single Crochet
DC = Double Crochet

Size Teen/Adult Hat:

Round 10: 2 DC, DC in next 10, repeat around (72 DC)
Round 11-17:DC around, join, ch 2 (72 DC)
do not fasten off, begin on first earflap

Earflaps for Child -Adult:

Earflap 1:
*Chain 1, SC in next 12, chain 1, turn
Row 2: SC decrease, SC in next 8, SC decrease, chain 1, turn
Row 3-4: SC across (10 SC)
Row 5: SC decrease, SC in next 6, SC decrease, chain 1, turn
Row 6: SC across (8 SC)
Row 7: SC decrease, SC in next 4, SC decrease, chain 1, turn
Row 8: SC across (6 SC)
Row 9: SC decrease, SC in next 2, SC decrease, chain 1, turn
Row 10: SC across (4 SC)
Row 11: Make 2 SC decreases, chain 1, turn
Row 12: SC decrease, fasten off, weave in ends*

Leave 28 stitches for Adult

Repeat the same for Earflap 2: **

For the Braided Tails, I used 3 colours instead of 1. This is my FIRST TIME crocheting a beanie and it’s also my FIRST TIME making “Pom-Poms”. I’m glad I’ve learnt something new. :)

Here are some pictures we took in Seoul. It was freezing cold (-5 to -17degrees), but it didn’t stopped us from having fun! We tried so many delicious food, “Bibimbap” and “Kao Rou”- BBQ Meat were some of our favourite dishes! We also visited their local theme park - Lotte World where there is an indoor and outdoor theme park filled with rides and shows. And not forgetting our yarn adventure which I’ve shared “Here” and many other exciting and happy moments.

Thanks for sharing the joy with us. It was a fulfilling trip and wearing these handmade beanies made it a little extra special!

It’s Little Yarn Friends 1st Birthday!

Happy Birthday Little Yarn Friends!

I can’t believe it has been exactly a year since I first started “Little Yarn Friends”. Thank you so much for all the love and support that I’ve received over the past year. It has truly been an amazing journey and an awesome 1st year! I have met some of the most amazing, talented and supportive people through this blogging process.

Catherine Leck (Founder of Anywool) is the one who convinced me to start a blog and Facebook page for my crochet hobby and to share them on the Internet. I still remember I had mix feelings while writing my first blog post, not knowing where it would lead me to. But as I kept on writing, I realised how much I actually enjoyed it. It slowly became a part of my life as I journal down my craft journey and experiences on this blog.

Once in awhile, I will look back at the items I first started making and it’s amazing to see how far I have come. From someone that was clueless about crocheting to someone who enjoys creating, making and sharing this amazing craft. It’s been a wonderful learning journey, exploring and trying out new things.

I’ve never imagine that I’ll have 700 tumblr followers and 2467 friends on Facebook to date. I feel so blessed and thankful that I can share my love and creativity with you all through “Little Yarn Friends”. Thank you to each and every one of you for embarking this journey with me, who have left your kind comments, encouraging e-mail, shared your lovely photos and stories with me. YOU have made this journey a meaningful one. I’m also so thankful for all the opportunities that came.

We really appreciate all the love we’ve received and we really enjoyed reading all your comments. Your enthusiasm have made us extremely excited to share this post with YOU!

Let’s get to know more about Lil’ Melody shall we?

Lil’ Melody or My Melody is a fictional character created by Sanrio back in 1975. If you are a Hello Kitty fan or you’ve seen Hello Kitty cartoons before, I’m sure you would not miss this cute little girl rabbit who always wears a pink or red hood that also covers her ears. Melody’s birthday is on the 18th January. Does your birthday falls on the same date?

Lil’ Melody is a special request from Jamie, a very kind and loyal customer who’ve previously ordered 2 customised creations from us: Lil’ Iron Man and Lil’ Kerokeroppi. You can click “Here” to read more about our Lil’ Iron Man creation and “Here” to read more about our Lil’ Kerokeroppi creation. After Jamie received these 2 amigurumis that I’ve previously customised for her, she mentioned that she really liked them and she wanted another customised doll to display at her home. Of course, I happily agreed to make one for her. As soon as she told me she wanted a customised Melody amigurumi, I knew I will have a lot of fun making this little one. I mean, who wouldn’t like such a sweet and adorable rabbit like Melody?

Jamie sent me a picture of Melody wearing this really beautiful hot pink hood as a reference. Last week, I went to Spotlight for some yarn hunting and spotted this really gorgeous shade of pink that looked really similar to the one in the picture. I was so excited to find a lovely hot pink yarn for Melody. Now, I can start making her come to life. :)

Here are some of my work in progress pictures that I’ll like to share with all of you. I’m sure these pictures will be useful if you’re planning to make your own Lil’ Melody too. :)

If you’ve been following my blog for some time, you might notice this familiar shape that many of my creations have. I called this the versatile head and body, which I’ll tweak the size to fit each character’s shape.

This pink bowl shaped is part of Lil’ Melody’s hood.

Here are pictures of Lil’ Melody’s pink bunny ears, her little pink cape, her hands and feet.

And here is her tiny little white tail.

All the parts are done, it’s time to piece everything together! Yay!

Firstly, I’ve placed the pink bowl shaped hood diagonally over Lil’ Melody’s head. It looked like Melody has a pink bowl hair cut. Then using a white tapestry thread and tapestry needle, I sewed the pink bowl shaped onto the head.

Secondly, I attached the pink ears on top of the pink bowl shaped. Melody’s ears placement is a little different from other bunnies that I’ve done. Hers were sewed really closed to the top of the head so it looked more like the cartoon. Thirdly, I sewed on her hands and feet as shown in the picture above, followed by wrapping her little pink cape or collar over her arms.

Next, I cut out 2 black oval felt for Lil’ Melody’s eyes, a small yellow oval felt for her nose, a white flower shaped felt and yellow circle felt to be pasted on top of the white flower. Lastly, I used fabric glue to paste them onto Lil’ Melody head. And our little lovely friend is complete! :)

She is all set and ready to meet her new friend, Jamie!

Lil’ Melody is such a joy to make. I hope Jamie will love her new little yarn friend.

Thank you so much for taking time to read the making of our Lil’ Melody. Now it’s your turn to make your own Lil’ Melody. I know all of you have been waiting for Lil’ Melody’s Free Crochet Pattern. I’ll get it posted really soon. :) Meanwhile, I hope you are enjoying your Easter week!

I thought it would be beneficial to do up a simple photo directory and description so it would be easier for anyone who are planning to visit the shop. :)

12 Arumugam Road Lion Building B
#05-12, Singapore, Singapore 409958
(5min walk from MacPherson MRT Station)

GetVintage is accessibly located directly opposite MacPherson MRT Station (Circle Line). From the MRT station, look across the road and you will see a Caltex petrol station and Lion Building B. Cross the over head bridge and follow the direction of the red arrows in the picture. It will lead you to Arumugam Road.

Little Yarn Friends finally had our mini launch at GetVintage Store yesterday. As mentioned in my sneak preview post last night, GetVintage is a newly opened store located in Singapore that carries a wide variety of vintage clothing, furnitures, shoes, bags, accessories and many more. They also have a sub-brand called GetClotheser where they get in touch with the latest trends and sell these trendy clothing at an affordable price. Every piece is imported, unique and carefully hand picked with love by Felicia Ang (the humble and beautiful Boss of GetVintage/GetClotheser).

Read on as I bring you around and show you what does her awesome shop has to offer! :)

P.S: I am not very good with words, so pardon my writing skills, I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves. :x

As I make my way into the shop, I was blown away by the generous space and cosy ambience. Don’t you think the whole layout of GetVintage Store looks really amazing? The blue walls and orange lights gave the shop a vintage and homely feel. The variety of clothes were great and they are all nicely hung up and evenly spaced out. It was a breeze to look through the clothes racks and I found some really good buys! (yay) They also provide 2 spacious fitting rooms with a 3/4 mirror inside each room. You could tell how much thought Felicia had put into the shop just by looking at the shop’s layout, the things she sells and how she displayed every item.

I spent a few hours at GetVintage yesterday happily looking through every rack and shelves just to make sure I did not miss out anything. Most of the furnitures you see in the shop are for sale. These vintage furnitures are imported and are still in really good condition. My Dad bought 2 Kopitiam Vintage High Chairs from GetVintage just the other day.

Here are some of the bags that they currently have in their shop. There are a few more bag shelves around the shop. I shall keep it a suspense so you’ll find other surprises when you make a trip down to GetVintage. :)

Loving the way how these shoes are being displayed! Really fresh yet vintage looking at the same time. Don’t you think?

Here’s a picture of me holding my GetVintage shopping bag! I bet you could tell how much I enjoyed shopping here just by looking at the size of my shopping bag. It was a great experience shopping at GetVintage because every corner is filled with little surprises. So happy and satisfied with my purchase.

Where I’m standing in the picture is the place where you’ll find my Little Yarn Friends. I called this corner the “Chill corner” because it has a comfy sofa, dim lights, magazines for you to read and basically to just chill (and crochet. Haha!). I love the colorful lightbulbs hanging on the wall too. Felicia stuck some wooden clips onto them to clip on some polaroid photos of their lovely customers. How sweet!

Here is where my Little Yarn Friends hang out in GetVintage. My little friends will be spending most of their time chilling out on their new vintage wooden table until they are being adopted to a new home. :) This space is still pretty bare at the moment. But I’m planning to add in more creations soon. What do you think of our new space? Feel free to throw in your suggestions and feedbacks.

Driven by our motto, “Do small things with great love”, each little yarn friend is made with lots with love, time and dedication in hope to bring more smiles to your everyday life. We hope to spread some cuteness and positivity to all of you through our adorable handmade creations as well as to promote the beauty and uniqueness of handmade crafts. And GetVintage has provided us an amazing platform to make these little yarn friends available for those who wish to have them. I would like to take this chance to thank Felicia once again for giving us the privilege and opportunity to showcase our handmade creations.

FYI: We also do custom order to suit your style and liking. Click “Here” for more details.

This is my favorite picture of the day, taken together with Felicia and her super adorable cheerful baby, Kayler! The little boss of GetVintage says Hello to all of you and welcome you to his shop with a big smile. Check out Kayler’s cute wings!
